American Airlines Arena

American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) – opened in late 1999, this is a sports and entertainment arena located just north of downtown Miami, and is near the city’s cruise ship terminal. It’s the home of the NBA team, the Miami Heat, and the WNBA (women’s basketball) team Miami Sol. The seating capacity for such games is 19,600, and up to 20,021 for concerts.

Because of Miami’s large Latin community, many of the musical events held here featured popular Latin artists, such as Puerto Rican crooners Marc Anthony and Chayanne, Spanish artist Alejandro Sanz, Mexican singer Marco Antonio Solís, Mexican rock group Maná, Argentine rock act Soda Stereo, Brazilian pop star Ivete Sangalo, and Miami Cuban acts Gloria Estefan and Willy Chirino (among many others). Aside from them, various American pop and rock acts have also performed there, like U2, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Britney Spears, Phish, Green Day, Justin Bieber, taylor Swift Sade, Celine Dion, and the Backstreet Boys.
